Why WarWatch Exists

Conflict data is scattered across dozens of institutional APIs, academic databases, and news wires — each with its own schema, access model, and update cadence. WarWatch was built to solve a simple problem: there is no single, free, real-time dashboard that aggregates these sources into one unified tactical picture.

This project consolidates five independent data pipelines into a single intelligence layer — giving researchers, journalists, and the general public a live, map-driven view of armed conflicts worldwide without paywalls or institutional logins.

Core Capabilities

●Multi-Source Ingestion — Five autonomous pipelines (GDELT, ReliefWeb, HDX HAPI, UCDP GED, RSS OSINT) poll every 5 minutes, ingesting and normalizing conflict events from raw CSV, JSON APIs, and RSS feeds.
●Live 3D Globe — Geocoded events are pinned onto a WebGL globe with tactical classification (attack, fatality, conflict zone) and real-time WebSocket push updates.
●NLP Signal Extraction — RSS headlines are parsed for fatality counts, attack types, attacker attribution, and country detection using keyword-based NLP heuristics.
●Confidence Scoring — Every event carries a source-based confidence score (0.4–1.0). UCDP and ReliefWeb are treated as verified (1.0); GDELT and RSS are flagged as lower confidence.
●Zero-Cost Infrastructure — Built entirely on free-tier services (Supabase, open APIs) with automated nightly data purges to stay within storage limits.

WarWatch is a solo portfolio project by Vivek Grover — designed and engineered as a full-stack demonstration of real-time data engineering, geospatial visualization, and API aggregation at scale.

1. Information We Collect

WarWatch does not require user registration, authentication, or any form of account creation. We do not collect personal information such as names, email addresses, or passwords.

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data including page views, session duration, approximate geographic region, device type, and referral sources. This data is used solely to understand how the dashboard is used and to improve the experience.

2. Cookies & Tracking

GA4 may set first-party cookies to distinguish unique users and sessions. Beyond GA4, WarWatch does not set any additional cookies. Third-party CDNs used for fonts and UI libraries (Google Fonts, Tailwind, GSAP) may have their own cookie/privacy policies.

3. Data Storage

All conflict event data is stored in a Supabase (PostgreSQL) database and is sourced exclusively from publicly available APIs and datasets. No user-generated content is stored. The database is purged nightly to stay within free-tier storage limits.

4. Third-Party Services

WarWatch integrates with the following external services for data and functionality:

5. Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal information to access, modify, or delete. If you have concerns about GA4 tracking, you may use browser extensions such as Google Analytics Opt-out or enable Do Not Track in your browser settings.

2. Data Accuracy Disclaimer

⚠ Important: The data displayed on WarWatch may be inaccurate, incomplete, or delayed. Event data is aggregated from multiple third-party sources with varying levels of verification. Some sources (RSS, GDELT) carry low confidence scores and should not be treated as verified intelligence.

WarWatch is not a substitute for official conflict monitoring services. Do not rely on this platform for personal safety decisions, military operations, or crisis response planning.

3. Prohibited Activities

You may not:

✕ Scrape, crawl, or systematically download data from the WarWatch API or dashboard
✕ Redistribute, resell, or republish aggregated data as your own dataset
✕ Use automated tools to send excessive requests to the API (rate limits are enforced)
✕ Attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or compromise the platform's infrastructure
✕ Use the data to incite violence, spread disinformation, or for any unlawful purpose

4. Intellectual Property

The WarWatch interface, codebase, and design are the intellectual property of Vivek Grover. The underlying conflict data is sourced from third-party providers (GDELT, UCDP, ReliefWeb, HDX) and is subject to their respective licenses and terms of use.

5. Limitation of Liability

WarWatch is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. The developer is not liable for any damages, losses, or decisions made based on data displayed on this platform. Service availability is not guaranteed.

6. Changes to Terms

These terms may be updated at any time without prior notice. Continued use of WarWatch after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
